Can I tell the difference between 4K and HD on any screen?

The difference is most visible on larger screens (55 inches and up) viewed from a normal distance. On smaller screens, the difference is less noticeable.

Does 4K always look better than HD?

Only if the original source content was actually filmed and encoded in 4K. Upscaled HD content will not match true native 4K quality.

4K vs. HD streaming: what's the real difference?

4K resolution (roughly 3840×2160 pixels) contains about four times the detail of standard 1080p HD (1920×1080 pixels). The practical difference is most visible on larger screens at a normal viewing distance, and only when the original content was actually produced in native 4K.

What actually determines the quality you see

Several factors combine to determine your real streaming quality:

Source content: Not every channel or program is filmed or encoded in native 4K — many are HD content upscaled or unavailable in 4K entirely.
Your internet connection: 4K streams require significantly more sustained bandwidth than HD.
Your device: Older devices may not support 4K decoding at all, or may struggle to do so smoothly.
Your display: A 4K stream on a 1080p screen will be automatically scaled down and won't show the full detail difference.

Realistic bandwidth guidance

As a general guideline, HD streaming typically needs around 5–10 Mbps of sustained bandwidth, while smooth 4K streaming typically needs 25 Mbps or more. Actual requirements vary by content and compression.

We describe our service as supporting "up to 4K" deliberately — resolution depends on the factors above working together, not on any single provider alone. If your internet connection or device can't sustain 4K, the stream will typically still work, just at a lower resolution.

How to get the best 4K experience
